After putting in a long day at work, making sure everyone else had a perfect Mother’s day, I headed off with my teenage son to see a live performance by the master, self-proclaimed "contemporary instrumental" artist Yanni, at LA’s Nokia Theater.

My son who is in his school Glee Club had never heard of Yanni, but I thought it would be a concert he would thoroughly enjoy and maybe even glean a little musical inspiration.

The maestro was a vision in black wearing a sardonicus grin, sporting black shoes, black pants, and a tight black tee. Yanni didn’t keep the crowd waiting long when he made his way onto the intimate stage that made it seem like he was in my own living room, to an arousing intro by his thirteen-piece orchestra.

Yanni dedicated the moving song "Felicia" to his own mother who had not only passed away, but it was also her birthday.

The new age artist followed that heart felt piece with the title song off his new album, “Truth Of Touch”. By now I knew I was in for an enjoyable evening and was able to sit back relax and take it all in.

Yanni artfully interacted with the audience and we playfully bantered with him throughout the evening.

He also knew how to bring the audience along by sharing the history of the song and how it came to fruition.

Yanni’s orchestra cast of characters, he featured lovingly and with pride as they each show cased their musical intellect and brilliance with solos that bought the room to its feet many times throughout the evening.

My son was duly impressed when he introduced his longtime friend of thirty years, the insane drummer Charlie Adams, who started out in rock bands with Yanni, and at the time, he said they could only dream of performing for an audience like they were that night.

There was also a surprise two song performance by Lisa Lavie and Lauren Jelencovich, who joined the orchestra and Yanni on stage. They each had a voice that could have been sent straight from heaven. The first song was almost operatic, and was followed by an up-tempo and rousing song that got the crowd engaged and raucous.

More than two hours, two encores and many ovations later my son and I left the venue in a rapturous mood. My son thoroughly enjoyed himself and even woke up talking about the show the next morning. As a budding musician Yanni has shown my son you can, "Dare to Dream."

Yanni does not disappoint with highly anticipated Truth Of Touch album and tour

Yanni, the Greece born iconic self proclaimed "contemporary instrumental" artist whose stellar beginning was overshadowed by his relationship with television star Linda Evans, has released his highly anticipated original Contemporary Instrumental and Electronic arrangement album, Truth Of Touch.

The Grammy nominated composer's last album release was his successful 2003 Ethnicity and it explains why fans were so thirsty for music that is not only heartfelt but could also quench the soul.

My first encounter with Yanni was courtesy the PBS channel when it aired the fundraiser, Yanni Live at the Acropolis. The music video from the show sold over 1 million copies and was second to Michael Jackson's Thriller Video .

Yanni lovers who have waited patiently won't be disappointed by, Truth Of Touch. The superbly imaginative O Luce Che Brilla Nell’Oscurita is an exquisite harmonious masterpiece of sentiment direct from where he performs best, the heart.

Truth Of Touch is by far one of Yanni's greatest work. In our troubled times his work will inspire you to get into a place of tranquil exhilaration!

Yanni kicked off his 40-date North American tour on March 22. The tour will bring the performer to theaters in major cities across the US including Radio City Music Hall in NYC and the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Fantasia Barrino: Lover's scorned wife appeals Alienation of Affection ruling

Fantasia Barrino’s judge should have recused herself from the the former American Idol winner’s obscure Alienation of Affection case, where an abandoned spouse can file a lawsuit against the person responsible for the collapse of their marriage, says the scorned wife of her former married lover, Antwaun Cook.

Paula Cook, has filed court documents appealing Judge Paige B. McThenia’s decision that she was separated from her husband at the time he started an affair with the singer and should have disqualified herself from the case because Fantasia's lawyers once represented the judge in her own divorce case.

She asserts that the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Judge was represented by the law firm of Horack Talley, Barrino’s attorneys, in a past domestic action, and should have disqualified herself from the case.

Last month, the Judge ruled in favor of Paula’s ex-husband, Antwaun Cook, stating he was separated from his estranged wife at the time of his affair with Fantasia.

"Judge McThenia has unnecessarily intertwined the issues related to this case with the issues contained in the potential litigation between Plaintiff and Ms. Barrino,"Cook’s court filing reveals.

"As a result, it is impossible to ascertain whether her rulings are motivated by an impartial interpretation of the application law or a desire to influence the potential litigation in favor of Ms. Barrino."

African-American Farmers Still Being Denied Justice! Congress Ignores $1.15 Billion Settlement Deadline

It's time to plant and farmers in Macklenburg County usually go to the local lender to apply for US Department of Agriculture loans to get funding for planting and harvesting.

A barely out of his teens Black farmer, John Boyd sits uncomfortably in the office of the job-multitasking county supervisor/loan officer. He is a loud, red-faced tobacco chewer that would talk down to Boyd in a degrading tone using words like,"boy and colored"

"Check the box that says colored," the man tells Boyd.

Boyd dutifully checks the box and signs the application. The lender picks it up and barely glances at it. He tears it up and throws the document in the trash while the young man was still sitting there.

The loan officer says,"Boy, you are wasting your time here. I don't have any funds to lend." He tells Boyd that it's in everyone's best interest that he sell his farm to one of the bigger white farmers in the county. And that he had made arrangements for Boyd, his wife and small child to move to the farmers stead, to farm and milk cows.

Boyd pretty much tells Mr. supervisor/lender to stick it where the sun doesn't shine and demands to know, "why can't I get these loans?"

Spitting and sputtering he gets in Boyd's face and threatens that he is going to sell the young farmer out. The lender conveniently pretends to aim for the spit can sitting prominently on his desk and misses. Reddish-brown spittle lands on the front of Boyd's crisp white for meeting shirt.

Boyd says, for the first time in his life "he felt less than a man."

If you think this event took place 100 years ago, you're wrong. This type of discrimination occurred in the early 1990's and is still happening today.

Failing to meet mortgage payments on his struggling farm, the lender foreclosed on Boyd's life dream and posted it for sale in the local paper in 1996.

Boyd and other Black farmers who were discriminated against, decided to fight and took their cause to Washington, DC. His farm was scheduled for auction on December 22. The government stopped the foreclosures on December 17. Boyd settled his case with the government a year and a half later.

According to a report released by the Congressional Research Service (CRS), litigation against the USDA for discriminating against Black farmers began in August 1997, and was known as the Pigford case.

The suit stated that the government agency had discriminated against them because of their skin color and had failed to investigate and respond in a timely manner to the farmers complaints from 1983-1997.

The 1997 case was settled out of court 11-years ago, but many of Black farmers were aging, and could barely read or write, signed too late or missed the September 12, 2000 deadline.

A little known Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama sponsored a measure in the 2008 Farm Bill to reopen the case. It was known as Pigford II.

In February 2010, Attorney General Eric Holder announced a 1.25 billion dollar settlement of the Pigford II claims, but Congress missed or ignored the March 31 deadline to fund it.

Another deadline looms on May 31. This time if Congress fails to settle the lawsuit, there is a provision that allows the plaintiffs to void the settlement altogether.

Saudi Teens Want Their MTV and Sin

A young Saudi girl known only by the her first name of Fatima has sinned because she once disguised herself as a boy to ride a bike in the streets of her hometown of Jeddah.

She said she also rebelled against wearing an oppressive black abayas robe - the traditional women's dress by making her own abayas in bright colors, which she sold to her friends. .

For these 'sins', she and two other youths faces stiff penalties for appearing on the MTV documentary series Resist the Power, to talk about the creative ways they skirt the country's strict morality codes, after the Saudi religious police filed a lawsuit against them for the crime of "openly declaring sin."

If the police are successful in dragging them into court - the Saudi judicial system is based on a strict Islamic code, the teens face morality offenses that sometimes include lashes with a whip and years of imprisonment. Punishment westerners consider outdated and barbaric.

A decision may potentially be made on whether to prosecute the teens in the next few days, Reuters has reported. An officer at the Jeddah court said it would take at least a week to decide whether to proceed to trial.

The MTV series originally aired on May 24, followed the adventures of Aziz who tries to meet his girlfriend for a date, Ahmad who thinks women should have more independence and Fatima.

On the show a broken hearted Aziz says, "We are not free to live as we like," and goes into detail describing the trials he goes through when trying to arrange dates in Jeddah with his girlfriend.

The four part documentary, which was seen by American audiences, also follows a Saudi heavy metal band who find's it difficult to find venues that will allow them to play.

Last year, a self professed Saudi playboy named Mazen Abdul-Jawad was sentenced to 1,000 lashes and five years in prison for discussing his sexual escapades on a show aired by the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation.

"It will be very difficult to stop the religious clockwork once this gets to court," a Saudi lawyer told Reuters. The True Life subjects "may face harsh sanctions like those dealt to Abdul-Jawad."
